Layout is the most basic tool for designers working in any medium. Starting as a designer, one of the first things you should learn is how to use grids. This will help you achieve interesting designs and will make the content easier to scan and understand.
This book, at least the first part of it, should help you lay out the foundation of working with grids.
The grid is one of the most basic tools used in every design medium. You need to master the grid in order to break out of it.
The second part of the book is a little bit confusing. The designs showcased in the “breaking the grid” part are rather unappealing. I am not sure if the point was just that, to emphasize the importance of the grid. I am sure there are better examples of designs that don’t use a grid. All in all Making and Breaking the Grid is a book that is worth reading and I am sure you will benefit from it.
